Code Enforcement
Welcome to the Village of Hanover Code Enforcement Department. This Department is tasked with investigating complaints received regarding zoning code regulations and property maintenance code violations. The overall goal of code enforcement is to protect public health, safety and welfare by ensuring compliance with local ordinances, zoning regulations and international property maintenance code standards. Through education and proactive inspections, we work to promote voluntary compliance to help eliminate blight, maintain property values and improve neighborhood quality of life. The public’s help is encouraged to keep homes safe and habitable, prevent properties from becoming targets of criminal activity and maintain the quality and character of our community.
Common Violations:
- Yard maintenance (grass/weeds)
- Accumulation of junk, rubbish or debris
- Junk /unlicensed vehicles
- Structures in disrepair
- Constructing without the proper permit

Please be sure to include as much information as possible so the Code Enforcement Officer knows what the exact issue(s) are, can identify where the complaint is located and complete a proper investigation.
If you received a Notice of Violation and wish to obtain further information, you can research the violation section listed on the notice by referring to the links below labeled “ Hanover Zoning Code” and “International Property Maintenance Code”. Understand that a Notice of Violation is not a citation, but a notice to inform you of the noted violation and seek compliance to resolve the violation.
